New school year begins today! 10/1/13

Today is the first day of school for Haiti’s elementary school children.  Although high schools, vocational schools and colleges opened on schedule the first week of September, the Ministry of Education announced in late August that opening day for primary schools throughout the country would be October 1. The reason for the delay was to allow parents more time to get their children ready for school. At the ICDM school in Bayonnais, plans for “Back to School Week” went on as scheduled from August 29 to September 3. A team arrived from the US to outfit children with school uniforms, shoes and school supplies. Nurses were on duty in the new health clinic to administer vitamins, deworming medication and wellness checkups for the students. School children happily engaged in campus cleanup, singing…
